How to help responsibly
Every listing on Shiksha shows what a home has told us it needs right now — not a general wishlist, but current, specific needs. Call ahead before visiting or giving; needs can change day to day, and a phone call means your help actually lands where it's needed.
Give what's asked for over what's convenient. A Verified badge means our team has confirmed the home directly — call, or a visit — not that we vouch for how they spend every donation.
Avoid bringing or photographing residents, especially children, without the home's explicit permission. Disclosing a child's identity in institutional care is an offence under India's Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.
Shiksha never handles money. Every contact is direct, between you and the home — see the directory to find one near you.
